The cover has an accordion shock absorber that protects the eye from the unpleasant impact of the scope after firing. It also facilitates proper and repeatable folding for shooting, and insulates the eye from wind and sunlight.
The cap is made of soft, flexible rubber, which requires regular maintenance with standard silicone oil. It fits a scope with an eyepiece with a diameter of 34 mm.
