Frequently Asked Questions
1️⃣ Elaboration - What is it?
Elaboration is the process of making ammunition from components, which are bullets, shells, primers and powder. Elaboration can be carried out either on components that are completely new - this is generally done by precision shooters who want to perfectly match the ammunition to their weapons - or previously used ones. In the second case, of course, we are talking about shells as the only ones remaining "unused" after shooting. The second type of elaboration is carried out strictly for economic reasons and, as a rule, is used by those who practice dynamic shooting.
2️⃣ Is elaboration legal?
Elaborating ammunition is legal when we carry it out solely for our own purposes, building cartridges in a caliber that matches the registered weapon we own. It is illegal both to deal in elaborated ammunition without a license and to elaborate ammunition in a caliber to which we do not have access through purchase.
3️⃣ What does it take to elaborate?
The minimum elaboration kit includes a bullet seating press, powder dispenser, caliper, precision balance shell holder and die. However, to be able to elaborate ammunition in comfort, a shell cleaning drum, primer seater and cleaners will also prove useful. Of course, one should not forget the components as well, that is, the shells, powder, bullets and primers.
4️⃣ How many times can the shell be used?
The answer to this question is - as long as the shell is suitable for reuse. Symptoms communicating to us that the shell is not suitable for re-elaboration include: deformation of the primer hole, chipping of the orifice ora splitting of the shell edge. As a rule, however, high-quality shells (such as Lapua or Hornady) allow us to use them three or four times.
