Frequently Asked Questions

1️⃣ Which headlamp should I choose?

Choosing the right headlamp depends, first of all, on its purpose and our individual preferences. We will need a different headlamp for running, another for hunting and camping, another for a trip to the mountains or cave exploration. For running, we need a lightweight, comfortable and stable headlamp that will provide us with a long glow time, such as the Fenix HL18R-T. Hunters and survival enthusiasts choose headlamps with reinforced and waterproof construction and high light output, e.g. Fenix HM65R. If we care about an uncompromising headlamp for cave exploration and mountain expeditions, the ideal solution will be Fenix HP30R V2.0. The headlamp has a powerful light output of up to 3,000 lumens, a lightweight and durable aluminum alloy construction, an external battery compartment, a convenient rotary switch and a useful power bank mode.

2️⃣ What is the red light in the headlamp for?

Red light, unlike white light, does not blind us when turned on in total darkness and provides high contrast of objects seen. Red light provides a smooth adaptation of vision to seeing in the dark, which usually takes up to several minutes. Red light is often used during nighttime activity from spring to autumn, as it does not attract flies, mosquitoes and other insects. A flashlight with red light is ideal for night fishing, camping, manual labor and other group activities where you want to maintain discretion and not blind the other group members. It can also be used for night reading and quick orientation on a map.

3️⃣ What's the green light for in the lead?

Flashlights with green light are favored by hunters, because light of this color does not frighten game and reduces our visibility. Green light has a long range, is friendly and easily perceived by human vision, and remains neutral to most forest animals. A hunting flashlight with green light will work well not for hunting, but also for night observation of animals in their natural habitat.

4️⃣ How many lumens should a good flashlight have?

In a flashlight for everyday use, a flux of about 100-200 lumens is completely sufficient. More powerful flashlights with a flux of 500-1000 lumens are aimed at outdoor enthusiasts, bikers and survivalists. Flashlights with a flux of more than 1,000 lumens are aimed at hunters, uniformed and rescue services and urbex enthusiasts. It is worth remembering that the stronger the flashlight shines, the shorter its operating time, so an important criterion for choosing a flashlight is its power supply and the number of modes.

5️⃣ What headlamp for the woods?

For running in the woods or illuminating a forest path during an evening walk, we need a lightweight, waterproof headlamp with a medium lumen output and long runtime. For running, the lightweight Fenix HL18R-T headlamp emitting a dual light output of 500 lumens, equipped with a charging port, a battery level indicator and a comfortable one-hand adjustable headband will be perfect. For a night hike in the woods or on a mountain path, we recommend the Fenix HL32R headlamp with a light output of 600 lumens, emitting light in two colors, powered by a capacious rechargeable battery charged by a micro-USB port.
