Frequently Asked Questions

1️⃣ What is useful for camping?

Choosing the right equipment one of the main conditions for a successful camping trip. Getting ready for a camping trip in the field, we should be self-sufficient. Therefore, first of all, we should take care of adequate shelter in the form of a tent, sleeping bag and sleeping pad. We also need appropriate outdoor clothing to protect us from weather conditions in the form of rain and cold. When planning a 3-day camping trip, you should take a supply of water and food, a burner, a vessel for boiling water, an essential and, of course, a knife. On a camping trip we also need lighting, so it is advisable to get a flashlight, preferably a headlamp, and spare batteries. Going into the field, let's not forget a first aid kit, matches (or a lighter), basic personal hygiene products (toothbrush and toothpaste, wet wipes and disinfectant gel). On a camping trip we should also take documents, money, and of course a charged smartphone and pocket power bank.

2️⃣ What food for camping?

When camping, we usually don't have the opportunity to cook, so when in the field we should take lightweight hiking food that provides plenty of energy. When hiking and camping, freeze-dried food, the preparation of which only requires pouring hot water, is ideal. Survivalists like to choose military rations, nutritious canned food, bread and military rusks. Ideal snacks while camping are dried beef, energy bars, chocolate and roasted nuts.

3️⃣ Can you camp in the woods?

Camping in the forest is only possible in areas specifically designated by the forestry commissioner, outside of which it is prohibited by law. In 2019, 41 new camping areas have been designated for active bushcraft and survival enthusiasts. A detailed map of the pilot areas of the "Stay overnight in the forest" program can be found at lasy.gov.pl.

4️⃣ Where can you camp wild?

Camping outside of campgrounds is not prohibited in Poland. However, we are not allowed to camp in parks and nature reserves, in the mountains, on beaches (without obtaining permission from the Director of the Maritime Office) and on private land. In designated areas (pilot areas of the "Stay overnight in the forest" program), we can legally camp in the forest (without reporting it to the Forestry Commission), provided that no more than 9 people stay overnight in a given place and/or the stay will not last longer than 2 nights.

5️⃣ How to store food on a camping trip?

The best way to store food while camping is in a travel refrigerator or thermal bag. The most important thing is to store our food in a relatively cool (shaded) and airy place. An excellent solution for camping is freeze-dried food, which does not require storage in a refrigerator or other special conditions. By taking freeze-dried food to the tent, we don't have to worry about food spoiling for us.

6️⃣ What knife for camping?

When camping, it is best to take a classic outdoor knife such as the Morakniv Companion. A handy knife with a fixed stainless steel or carbon steel head is an ideal tool for the field, allowing you to prepare a meal, split wood and plane sticks. A Swiss Army Knife equipped with a number of useful tools, such as a saw, can opener and toothpick, will also be perfect in the field. We can also take a lightweight Opinel folding knife on a camping trip. The French brand's knives are prized for their simplicity, functionality and excellent value for money.
