Kizer Baby 1044C1 is a handy full-tang outdoor knife designed for bushcraft and survival enthusiasts.
Kizer Baby 1044C1 - compact fixed blade knife for survival and bushcraft
The main idea accompanying the designers during the creation of the knife was to create a simple and functional camping tool that works well for survival and buschcraft use. The knife is made from a single piece (full-tang) of hard 154CM5 tool steelhardened to a hardness of 58-60 HRC. 154CM stainless steel has an increased carbon content with the addition of molybdenum, which is why it is often described as an improved version of the popular 440C steel. The American steel is valued for its resistance to corrosion and wear (high impact strength), long maintenance of working sharpness and relative ease of sharpening.
The 3mm thick blade is finished with a stonewashed finish, which effectively masks the scratches that occur during use of the knife. The outdoorsy nature of the knife is confirmed by the drop-point profile with a strong shank and a gentle curve of the belly, which gives the blade good cutting properties. The full flat grind will be great for cutting and batoning, due to its strength and low level of wedging in the material.
Transverse cutters were applied on the back of the blade and at its base, creating a stable point of support for the fingers during planing. The handle of the knife is formed by oval facings of black laminate G-10, fixed to the shank with 2 steel screws. A contoured grip with a slightly rough texture makes the knife feel stable in the hand. There is a hole in the back of the handle that allows for the insertion of a safety cable or decorative braid.
A kydex sheath, compatible with a tek-lok clip, is used to carry the knife on a belt.
