Hammock - minimalist relaxation under a cloud "

Prized by enthusiasts of bushcraft, bicycle exploration and those who want to experience relaxation on their own plot of land. Although inconspicuous, the hammock offers us comfort, mobility and closeness to nature that a classic tent does not. That's why it has become the alternative of choice for a growing number of users - from circumnavigators to urbex enthusiasts. Let's have a look at this well-known and well-loved piece of equipment for any nature lover.

Types of hammocks - what are the differences?

namiotMosquito net is a must-have in Masuria and Bieszczady - without it it's hard to have a peaceful sleep in summer!

Hammocks can be divided by design, purpose and additional functions. The simplest models are light sheets of material (usually nylon, polyester or parachute silk) that fold into a small cover. They are designed for rest or short naps.

For the more discerning there are hammocks with mosquito nets - protecting against insects - and integrated pockets for small items.

  • Weight: from 200 g (ultralight) to 1.5 kg (heavy duty)
  • Load capacity: 150-250 kg (certified models)
  • Accessories: mosquito net, pockets, double fabric, suspension systems

A hammock for every occasion - is it possible?

namiot For bushcraft, bet on durable material and accessories - such as a tarp and mosquito net.

Now let's have a look at hammocks designed for different activities and consider what features specific models should have.

Bushcraft "

Durability, material, mosquito net and tarp

This is where durability, insect protection and versatility come into play. The best hammocks are those with a mosquito net, tarp and high resistance to mechanical damage. A model made of RipStop or heavier weight material will be optimal.

Bike "

lightweight, quick installation, compact

In this case, weight is naturally crucial. Choose a model that is compact, easy to pack and quick to assemble - preferably made of thin parachute nylon.

Urbex "

lightness and strength

A hammock without a mosquito net, with a large suspension tolerance and small size will ensure ease of transportation even into the tightest corners of abandoned places.

Plot "

wide, comfortable hammock made of cotton

This time we can afford a more comfortable and heavier model. It is worth choosing a cotton hammock with a wide recliner, which will be used for relaxation on warm days. This is an ideal choice for an afternoon relaxation in the garden or on the terrace.

kompasHammock brands vary in philosophy and materials - choose equipment for your style and budget.

We have already looked at the types of hammocks and the various circumstances in which we can use them. Now let's look at three well-known manufacturers of the equipment we are interested in. What are they known for? And what do they actually offer?

Ticket To The Moon

This brand was founded in 1996 on the Indonesian island of Bali. From the beginning, it has focused on producing hammocks made of nylon and parachute silk - a material that is extremely light, breathable and extremely resistant to stretching. Their hammocks are hand-stitched, and the brand's philosophy is based on minimalism, travel spirit and social responsibility. TTTM's products are designed for minimalists who value lightweight luggage, simplicity of assembly and high quality workmanship. The brand also cares about the ethical dimension of production - it supports the Sumbi community on Indonesia's eastern islands and promotes a sustainable lifestyle. Their hammocks can be found both on the backs of globetrotters and in the gardens of comfort fans.

Lesovik is a brand for demanding users who are looking for equipment that is reliable in all conditions - from the Jurassic forests to the wild Bieszczady Mountains. The company is also involved in the promotion of responsible camping and cooperates with the National Forests in the framework of the "Stay overnight in the forest" initiative .

Tigerwood hammocks are a compromise between lightness and durability - often equipped with mosquito nets, pockets for accessories and strong suspensions. The brand also offers ready-made kits with tarps, making them popular with users looking for a comprehensive all-in-one solution.

What to pay attention to when choosing a hammock?

hamakChoose a hammock that is at least 40% longer than your height - better comfort and easier to arrange on the slant.

When choosing a hammock, we should pay special attention to several key aspects that directly affect our comfort, safety and fit to the way we use it. One of the most important parameters is its length and width. The taller we are, the longer the hammock should be to ensure a comfortable and stable position. Ideally, its length is at least 40% more than our height - for a person measuring 180 cm the optimal length will be 260-280 cm. Such a proportion will allow us to lay slightly on the slant, which translates into a flat back support and a peaceful sleep.

Let's also pay attention to the maximum lifting capacity - it's a matter not only of convenience, but most importantly of safety. Choose hammocks with a certified lifting capacity, usually in the range of 150-200 kg. If the lifting capacity is too low, you may end up breaking the structure while sleeping, especially if you use the hammock in the field.

materialLightweight nylon - for cycling, RipStop - for the woods, cotton - for the allotment.

The material from which the hammock is made is also not insignificant. If you focus on lightness and mobility, thin parachute nylon - ideal for backpacking trips - will work. Bushcraft enthusiasts can bet on RipStop fabric, resistant to abrasion and tearing. On the other hand, for relaxing in the garden, a better choice will be cotton - pleasant to the touch, although less resistant to moisture.

In the summer it is also worth taking care of protection against insects - a mosquito net is not a luxury, but a necessity, especially if you go to the Mazury, Bieszczady or other forested areas. Thanks to it, we will avoid unpleasant bites and ensure a comfortable rest.

It is also worth choosing hammocks with a convenient suspension system - preferably with wide straps to protect the trees and sturdy snap hooks. This will allow us to quickly and safely unfold our hammock, regardless of the location.

Is it legal to sleep in a hammock in the forest?

Yes, you can, there are designated places for this purpose specified in the national forest program "Sleep in the forest".
Remember the Leave No Trace rules - don't destroy litter, don't leave trash, don't light a campfire outside the designated area!

The program allows legal camping on designated National Forest areas: max. 2 nights, up to 9 people without notification. For longer - you need permission from the Forestry Commission.

Summary: which hammock to choose?

For a plot of land, choose a classic, wide cotton hammock - preferably with colorful stripes, which will not only enliven the space, but also provide comfort during a lazy afternoon with a book or a nap in the shade of the trees.

For example, a model with a built-in mosquito net and matching tarp is a great choice for bushcraft - it makes a full camping system, ready for overnight stays in the woods regardless of weather or insects.

For cycling enthusiasts, an ultralight hammock that can be unfolded in seconds will be ideal. This feature will be appreciated when changing locations on a daily basis.

When exploring abandoned buildings and industrial corners, where we do not always have ideal conditions at our disposal, reliability and low price are important - here a hammock that is durable, lightweight and without unnecessary extras comes to the rescue.

  • For the plot: a wide, colorful hammock made of cotton
  • Bushcraft: a model with a mosquito net and tarp
  • Cycling expeditions: ultralight hammock with quick assembly
  • Urbex: durable, lightweight and inexpensive model

Whether we sleep under a cloud or seek temporary relaxation on a plot of land, the hammock gives us a freedom that is hard to find elsewhere. It is a piece of equipment that we customize - from a simple bedding to a complex shelter. If we're looking for a model perfectly suited to our style of adventure, let's check out Ticket To The Moon, Lesovik and Tigerwood hammocks - and start planning our next backpacking trip from the comfort of our backpacks.
