Taidea TG1812 is a compact sharpening system, equipped with a set of 4 diamond plates of different gradations, stable knife clamping jaws and infinitely adjustable sharpening angle of 15-30°.
Taidea TG1812 is a professional sharpening system that can sharpen a wide range of knives, from kitchen knives, edc knives, tactical knives to large hunting and survival knives.
The biggest advantages of this system are its small size, ease and convenience of use, large range of sharpening angle adjustment and stable operation.
Folding design
Taidea TG1812 has a folding design, which can be distinguished by a polymer base with non-slip feet, spring-loaded jaws for holding the knife, and a set of diamond and steel guides.
It takes very little time to disassemble the system, the angle-graded rail and knife holder need to be set on the base, and the diamond grinding wheels (4 pieces included) need to be connected to the guides (2 pieces included). The assembled sharpener can be conveniently carried in a polymer case of handy size.
Such functionality means that the sharpener can accompany you while camping, hunting or fishing.
Diamond plates
Theset includes 4 diamond plates, allowing you to carry out the most important tasks of repairing, sharpening and smoothing the cutting edge.
The diamond-coated steel inserts are mounted in polymer housings of different colors. The diamond coating is harder than tungsten carbide, so we can sharpen tools made of highly hardened steel, and the grinding itself is much easier and faster.
In order to maximize the life of diamond inserts, they should not be pressed hard against the blade during sharpening.
Available gradations:
- Gradation 360 recommended for initial sharpening and repairing a damaged cutting edge,
- Gradation 600 is used for working sharpness, and sharpening heavily dulled cutting edges,
- Gradation 800 fine is used for initial smoothing of the blade, and quick sharpening of slightly dulled edges,
- Gradation 1000 is for smoothing and giving high sharpness.
Easy to use
The most important factors affecting the effectiveness of sharpening are the choice of the correct angle and the behavior (control) when grinding the blade.
Taidea TG1812 creates an extremely simple and efficient system that allows not only the selection and smooth adjustment of the sharpening angle from 15 to 30° (per side), but also the very stable seating of the knife in the vise. Another innovation is the ability to simultaneously sharpen the right and left sides of the cutting edge.
Abrasive guides are installed on both sides of the blade, which makes the grinding process easier and much faster. Attaching and replacing the knife is extremely easy thanks to the spring-loaded clamp. This eliminates the need to rotate/rearrange the blade, and saves our time and effort.
The ability to infinitely adjust the sharpening angle, combined with full control and stability of the entire process, guarantees precise and efficient grinding.
Choice of sharpening angle
Thechoice of sharpening angle should be adapted to the type of knife, the manufacturer's recommendations, as well as your own preferences. It is worth remembering that a blade with a higher sharpening angle will stay sharp longer, but will cut less precisely and aggressively than an edge honed to an angle of, say, 20°.
Suggested sharpening angles:
- 15°- 20° kitchen knives, filleting knives, precision cutting tools,
- 20° - kitchen knives, pocket knives, small edc folders,
- 25° - large edc folders, hunting knives, outdoor knives,
- 30° - survival knives, heavy duty tools.
