TheKershaw Starter 1301BW is an edc folding knife from the budget Starter series dedicated to less demanding users.
TheStarter model is an everyday-use folder that launched a series of affordable knives with a modern design, made of easy-to-sharpen 4Cr14 steel and equipped with the SpeedSafe system responsible for assisting the blade opening.
Proven steel
The 86mm long blade is made of sturdy 4Cr14 steel hardened to 55-57 HRC. This Chinese stainless steel is characterized by high corrosion resistance, relatively short-lived sharpness, which, however, perfectly compensates for the ease and speed of sharpening.
Such properties of the steel make the Kershaw Starter 1301BW intended for less demanding users and people who are just beginning their adventure with the outdoors and the issue of edc.
Functional blade
Theslim blade with a utilitarian drop-point profile has a striking aged BlackWash finish (black oxidation), which effectively masks minor scratches or abrasions to the blade from use.
Thanks to the use of a narrow stock, concave grind and a cutting edge with a gentle curve, the knife has good cutting properties, and the blade does not wedge in the material being cut.
The thickness of the blade at its widest point is 2.8 mm, which is a compromise between durability and functionality of the knife in everyday work. Transverse cutters made on the back of the wedge allow stable support of the fingers during work.
Convenient handling
The blade can be unfolded with one hand in two ways: with the help of a milled flipper or with the use of a two-sided peg, thus allowing us to choose the method according to our preferences. Both solutions are convenient for both right- and left-handed users, and also allow comfortable operation of the knife with gloves.
Assist mechanism for unfolding the blade
The opening process is facilitated by the SpeedSafe assist mechanism. When the flipper flipper is pressed or the peg is leveraged, the assist mechanism activates an internal spring that dynamically unfolds the blade, making the knife ready for use in a fraction of a second.
Robust locking mechanism
Once the blade is unfolded, it is securely locked with a liner-lock mechanism. The steel locking bar provides a high level of security, and its operation is very intuitive and convenient. A reliable lock is an important element calling for the functionality and safety of the folding knife.
Carrying clip
Discreetly carrying the knife in your pocket is facilitated by a spring clip (1 position). There is also a hole on the handle for attaching a decorative paracord braid, which are very popular among most knife owners.
Armored liners
The knife's handle is made up of oxidized stainless steel facings, gently contoured to the hand. The striking cross-milling effectively attracts attention and increases the grip of the knife to the hand.
