TheKershaw Dividend 1812OLCB is alightweight folding knife, with a composite steel head, an aluminum handle and a SpeedSafe mechanism to help unfold the blade.
The Dividend 1812 can be simply described as a handier, more conveniently portable version of the Link 1776 knife, but featuring the same functionality and comfort.
Composite steel
The first thing that catches our attention about the Kershaw Dividend 1812OLCB is the distinctive toothed line running along the blade, which is where the two grades of steel are joined.
The 75mm-long blade is made of a patented composite steel, a kind of hybrid consisting of German Bohler N690 hardened between 58-60 HRC (top of the blade) and D2 chrome steel (cutting edge).
Unlike standard stainless steel containing 13% chromium, N690 has a chromium content of 17%, which contributes to much higher corrosion resistance. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness in the range of 58-60 HRC, giving the head the necessary strength and rigidity.
The highly hardened D2 tool steel used at the bottom is distinguished by its very high hardness and wear resistance. For the user, this means long retention of sharpness and resistance to wear.
The blade is finished by sandblasting, which masks well the minor scratches and abrasions caused by use.
The head with a wharncliffe profile has an almost straight cutting edge, a concave grind and a sturdy tip, so cutting is smooth and the knife will be perfect as part of our edc.
Comfort of use
The blade can be conveniently unfolded with one hand using a flipper, so that after taking it out of the pocket, the knife is instantly ready for use.
This solution is convenient for both right- and left-handed users, and also allows comfortable operation of the knife with gloves.
Easy unfolding
The opening process is facilitated by the SpeedSafe assist mechanism. When the flipper flipper is pressed, the assist mechanism activates an internal spring that dynamically unfolds the blade, making the knife ready for use in a fraction of a second.
Blade lock
When the blade is unfolded, it is securely locked with a liner-lock mechanism. The steel locking bar provides a high level of security, and its operation is very intuitive and convenient. A reliable lock is an important element calling for the functionality and safety of the folding knife.
Aluminum grip
The handle of the knife is formed by liners made of anodized aircraft-grade 6061-T6 aluminum, which are attached to steel liners, responsible for the rigidity and strength of the structure. The element that undoubtedly catches the eye of any knife enthusiast is the olive color of the liners.
The anodized coating is resistant to fading, scratching and abrasion, which guarantees the attractive appearance of the knife for a long time. The contoured shape of the grip and fine texturing makes the knife very secure in the hand and comfortable to use.
In the back of the handle there is a hole for attaching a decorative paracord tail, which makes it easier and faster to get the knife out of the pocket. Discreet carrying of the knife in the pocket is made possible by a profiled clip with the possibility of mounting in as many as 4 positions.
