TheKershaw Eris 1881 is a striking edc knife featuring an 8Cr13MoV steel blade, a blade assist system and titanium nitride coated steel liners.
The Eris 1881 combines all the elements that should be found in a true edc knife: functionality, comfort of use and proven solutions and materials.
Proven steel
The84mm long blade is made of popular 8Cr13MoV steel hardened to 57-59 HRC. This Chinese steel has good corrosion resistance and hardenability comparable to AUS6.
The8Cr13MoV steel blade will be great for everyday use due to its corrosion resistance, good sharpness retention and ease of sharpening, for which a pocket whetstone is completely sufficient.
Utility blade
The blade, with a utilitarian drop-point profile, is coated with a dual finish: satin-finished on the amphibian and stonewashed on the grind.
Thanks to the use of a sharp hilt, concave grind and a long cutting edge with a gentle curve, the knife has good cutting and penetrating properties, and the blade does not wedge in the material being cut. The middle part of the back has been cut out, creating a place for the finger to rest during precision cutting.
An additional point of support is provided by transverse cut ters at the base of the spine. The thickness of the blade at its widest point is 2.8 mm, which is a compromise between durability and functionality of the knife in everyday work.
Comfort of use
The blade can be quickly and conveniently unfolded with one hand using a flipper/flipper. The action is done in a very natural and easy way and allows both right and left-handed people to use the knife comfortably.
Assist mechanism for unfolding the blade
The opening process is facilitated by the SpeedSafe assist mechanism. When the flipper flipper is pressed or the peg is leveraged, the assist mechanism activates an internal spring that dynamically unfolds the blade, making the knife ready for use in a fraction of a second.
Robust locking mechanism
A monolithic frame-lock, considered one of the most robust locking mechanisms, effectively protects the blade from accidental folding. The lock, like the flipper and peg, can be operated with one hand.
Simple and stylish
The knife's handle is formed by smooth stainless steel facings. The manufacturer has dispensed with milling and texturing of the handle. The element that provides a stable grip is a two-stage finger cutout and a flipper, which, when the blade is unfolded, acts as a hilt.
The applied titanium nitride coating gives the whole knife construction a very modern and striking appearance. Discreet carrying of the knife in the pocket is made possible by a spring clip, with the possibility of attachment in 2 positions (left and right).
There is also a hole in the handle designed for attaching a decorative braided paracord, which are very popular among most knife owners.
