TheKershaw Launch 13 is an automatic knife that features a modern design, lightweight skeletonized construction and excellent ergonomics.
Tool steel
The knife has an 89mm long blade, made of hard 154CM tool steel, which is subjected to optimal hardening for edc knives to a hardness of 58-60 HRC.
The154CM stainless steel has an increased carbon content with the addition of molybdenum, which is why it is often described as an improved version of the popular 440C steel. The American steel is valued for its resistance to corrosion and wear (high impact strength), long maintenance of working sharpness and relative ease of sharpening.
Utility head
The geometric blade with a wharncliffe profile was finished with a classic satin (polished) technique.
Thanks to the use of a sharp hilt, a flat grind and a straight cutting edge, the knife penetrates easily and slices easily. The thickness of the blade at its widest point is 3 mm, which is a compromise between the durability and functionality of the knife in everyday work.
The knife has a number of design touches that are effective eye-catchers, including the aggressive profile of the liners, the cutouts in the handle (which reduce the weight of the design) and the striking triangular bolt (pivot).
The milled section of the back that allows the finger rest is coated with black DLC (Diamond Like Caron) carbon coating, which strikingly breaks the silver color of the blade.
Automatic unfolding
The most important element of the automatic knife, is its extremely comfortable and easy unfolding system.
Unlike models with an assisted head, in an automatic knife, unfolding the blade requires only pressing a button, which is responsible for releasing the lock and activating the internal spring.
Folding the blade requires pressing the button again and manually retracting the blade. Such functionality makes the "automatics" very popular among soldiers, uniformed service personnel and the rapidly growing group of edc enthusiasts.
The release button is embedded in a milled cutout, so it does not protrude above the handle, which in turn effectively prevents accidental unfolding of the blade. Extreme caution and prudence are recommended when using the automatic knife.
Futuristic handle
The knife has ergonomic liners made of anodized aircraft-grade 6061-T6 aluminum that form a monolithic unit with the backspacer. Thanks to precise 3D machining, the handle has a striking style and excellent ergonomics.
The eye-catching element is the aggressively profiled facings with side cutouts. The execution of the holes had a significant impact on the knife's low weight of just 68g.
The black anodized coating is resistant to fading, scratching and abrasion, which guarantees the knife's attractive appearance for a long time. Discreet carrying of the knife in the pocket is made possible by a high-set clip with the possibility of flipping it over.
