TheBenchmade 4400SBK Casbah is a lightweight automatic knife, featuring a partially serrated CPM-S30V stainless steel blade, a discreet deployment button and liners made of durable G10 laminate.
American tool steel
Theknife has a usable 86mm drop-point blade made of American CPM-S30V stainless steel. Crucible Industries' S30V powder steel is hardened to an optimal hardness of 58-60 HRC, so it maintains a high sharpness for a long time, has high mechanical strength, and is also resistant to corrosion. Thanks to its high vanadium carbide content, the steel is distinguished by its high impact and wear resistance, as well as its excellent cutting properties. The blade is finished by satin finishing (polishing).
When choosing a hard-steel knife, get a diamond sharpener, as sharpening with a standard ceramic whetstone can be very labor-intensive and inefficient.
Utility head
The utility drop point profile blade is coated with a layer of black Teflon, which protects the blade from minor scratches. The knife has a gently marked blade belly and a strong hilt. A head with this profile is an excellent choice for those looking for a knife for everyday use. On the back of the ridge transverse cutters have been made, allowing a stable finger rest during planing or precision cutting. The thickness of the blade at its widest point is 2.9 mm, which is a compromise between durability and functionality of the knife in everyday work.
To increase the functionality of the knife, the back of the cutting edge is serrated. The combo blade is particularly useful when cutting hard and fibrous materials such as belts, ropes and webbing.
Advantages of the serrated blade:
- Maintains working sharpness for a long time,
- cuts harder and fibrous materials more efficiently, including wood, cardboard, plastic, fabrics, cables, ropes, tapes, as well as meat, vegetables and fruits,
- with greater cutting efficiency, reduces fatigue and does not require putting in a lot of force.
Instant unfolding
The main advantage of the automatic knife, is the comfortable and fast unfolding system. Unlike models with an assisted head, in an automatic knife, unfolding the blade requires only pressing a button, which is responsible for releasing the lock and activating a strong spring. Folding the blade requires pressing the button again and manually retracting the blade. Such functionality makes "automatics" very popular among soldiers, uniformed service personnel and edc enthusiasts.
The enlarged release button is embedded in a milled cutout, so it does not protrude above the handle. Extreme caution and prudence are recommended when using the automatic knife.
Reliable locking mechanism
Benchmade's flagship mechanism, the double-sided Axis-lock, which is valued for its immense mechanical strength, dirt resistance and convenient operation for right- and left-handed users, is responsible for safe operation.
Comfortable grip
TheBenchmade 4400 Casbah has contoured Grivory blue plastic liners. The glass-epoxy laminate used is characterized by light weight, high mechanical strength, resistance to water, temperature change, as well as many acids and solvents. The contoured shape, combined with the finger undercut, cross-milling and rough texture of the plastic, provide excellent grip on the knife and comfort in use. Discreetly carrying the knife in a pocket is made possible by a high-set clip with attachment options on both sides of the liners.
