TheBenchmade 9400BK Auto Osborne is an automatic version of one of Benchmade's most popular knives, featuring a CPM-30V powder steel blade , and lightweight anodized aluminum facings and a dual locking mechanism.
Premium steel
Theknife has an 86mm long satin-finished head made of American CPM-S30V stainless steel.
Crucible Industries' S30V powder steel is hardened to an optimal hardness of 58-60 HRC, so it maintains a high sharpness for a long time, has high mechanical strength, and is also resistant to corrosion.
Thanks to its high vanadium carbide content, the steel is distinguished by its high impact and wear resistance, as well as its excellent cutting properties. The blade is coated with a layer of black Teflon, which protects the blade from minor scratches.
When choosing a hard steel knife, get a diamond sharpener, as sharpening with a standard ceramic whetstone can be very labor-intensive and inefficient.
Tactical and practical
The wide blade, with a tactical reverse-tanto profile, has a matte satin finish (polishing) that harmonizes perfectly with the titanium facings.
With a sturdy hilt, a flat grind and a cutting edge with a gently rounded line, the knife penetrates easily and has excellent cutting qualities.
The thickness of the blade at its widest point is 3 mm, which is a compromise between durability and functionality of the knife in everyday work.
Instant unfolding
The main advantage of the automatic knife, is the quick unfolding system and instant readiness for work. Unlike models with an assisted head, in an automatic knife, unfolding the blade only requires pressing a button, which is responsible for releasing the lock and activating the internal spring.
Folding the knife requires pressing the button again and manually retracting the blade. Such functionality makes "automatics" very popular among soldiers, uniformed service personnel and edc enthusiasts.
The release button is embedded in a milled cutout, so it does not protrude above the handle.
The knife uses an additional locking mechanism, which prevents accidental pressing of the activation button and folding of the blade. The slide of the second safety mechanism is located on the back of the handle.
Extreme caution and prudence are recommended when using an automatic knife.
Lightweight handle
The knife has green liners made of anodized aircraft-grade 6061-T6 aluminum, which are attached to steel liners, responsible for the rigidity and strength of the structure.
One of the main advantages of aluminum, in addition to its strength and ability to be finely machined, is its light weight, which inevitably comes with the comfort of carrying and using the knife.
The profiled handle is wider at the base, which makes the grip of the knife comfortable and the hand will not slip on the blade while working.
The purple anodized aluminum liner contrasts strikingly with the knife's dark color scheme and will undoubtedly attract the attention of any knife enthusiast.
Convertible clip
Discreetly carrying the knife in your pocket is made possible by the standard embedded clip , which can be mounted on either side of the handle.
