Workshop flashlight
A professional workshop flashlight should meet 3 essential conditions: have a damage-resistant design, provide an adequate amount of light, and allow you to mount the flashlight in such a way that it optimally illuminates the place where we work. The body of the Fenix WT16R is made of polycarbonate, as a result, the flashlight is not only resistant to falls and mechanical damage, but also lightweight. With a built-in rechargeable battery, the flashlight weighs only 129 g, so you can even forget about its presence on your belt or in your pocket.
The body is rectangular in shape, so it does not slip from the hand, is very handy and comfortable to use. Among the desirable features of any workshop flashlight are ease and versatility of mounting. That's why the Fenix WT16R uses a dual mounting system, i.e. a sturdy steel clip that allows the flashlight to be worn on a tool belt, overalls or next to a bag, and magnetic panels that allow quick attachment to steel surfaces. Such functionality allows you to position the light at the angle of your choice, making it great for all kinds of repairs, inspections and illuminating harder-to-reach places.
Concentrated or diffused light?
The light source is two front Cree XP-E2 LEDs (concentrated light) and a side COB LED panel emitting diffused light. COB (Chip-on-Board) technology allowed for higher density in the LED array resulting in higher intensity and greater uniformity of diffused light. The focused light with a maximum range of 115m has 3 brightness levels: maximum 300 lumens, medium 100 lumens and low 30 lumens. In scattered light mode, the user can use the following modes: maximum 300 lumens, low 100 lumens, and a yellow flashing light that can act as a warning light, such as an accident site or danger zone.
Depending on the work to be done, we can choose between a light with a longer range or a light that diffuses better the space right in front of us, making the flashlight ideal for the workshop, construction inspection, industry, etc. Turning on the flashlight and changing modes is done via a side switch with a built-in battery level indicator.
Rechargeable battery with USB-C charging
To power the flashlight, the manufacturer useda 3.7V Li-Po battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh. According to the manufacturer, the battery used allows for nearly 4 hours of operation in maximum mode of 300 lumens or up to 30 hours in low mode of 30 lumens. In addition, thanks to the function of the battery level indicator (LED in the side switch), we can control the operation of the flashlight and manage the remaining energy reserve. Each time the switch is pressed (on the flashlight's off mode), the LEDs inform us in real time about the state of the battery. The cell is charged via a USB-C port. The full charging time is only 100 minutes (2A charging), which is extremely important when working that requires frequent use of the light.
The flashlight features reverse polarity protection, a switch lock and a memory mode. This function remembers and starts the flashlight in the last mode we used before turning off the flashlight.
The presented parameters were obtained under laboratory conditions. A 3.7V 2000 mAh Li-Po battery was used during testing.
