A thermal blanket is a must-have in every first-aid kit, preventing hypothermia, protecting against overheating, and protecting the masses from wind and rain in an emergency.
When should a thermal blanket be used?
The thermal blanket, also known as NRC foil, should be used for:
- people injured in traffic accidents,
- people exposed to thermal shock (overheating),
- people with hypothermia (hypothermia),
- victims who are in shock and emergency conditions.
How to use a thermal blanket?
The easiest way to remember the principle of the thermal blanket, is to realize that the silver side is responsible for reflecting heat. Therefore, if you want to help a person with hypothermia, the silver side should face inward (toward the person). If the silver side faces outward, the sun's rays are reflected. This arrangement of the blanket is used for people whom we protect from overheating.
When folded, the blanket takes up little space and weighs about 90 grams, so you can carry it comfortably with you, pack it in your backpack, and it is mandatory to have it in your first aid kit.
