ELD-X is a bullet that combines the effectiveness of JHP mushrooming ammunition with the aerodynamic properties of FMJ. This has been achieved through the use of a hard polymer insert, which is additionally characterized by complete temperature resistance. Thanks to this, there are no even the slightest deformations in the tip, so it retains its perfect shape all the way to the target.

The aerodynamic properties have also been supported by the excellent tipping and proper profile of the bullet's rear. The Hornady ELD-X was terminated with a so-called boat tails to guarantee stability, and its jacket was symmetrically thickened to achieve ideal bullet balance. Upon hitting the target, the bullet mushrooms, which is further aided by the previously mentioned insert. Thanks to its low fragmentation, the ELD-X features excellent penetration while efficiently transferring energy.
