Mossberg is a synonym for a pump action repeating rifle, which, thanks to its simple and strict construction, guarantees reliability and long-lasting performance. The Maverick 88 differs from the 500 model by the location of the safety on the breech, the lack of the possibility to mount a rail on the cartridge chamber and a simpler design of the reloading mechanism (the shuttle works directly on the magazine tube. The double-action breech mechanism works and the reloading system works in the same way in both rifles, i.e. by visiting the shuttle to the rear and returning to the front position.
The Maverick has a polymer buttstock with shock absorbing foot, a fixed 7-round magazine and an 18.5" long barrel made of carbon steel. A traditional bead-type bowstring is mounted on the barrel for easy "over the barrel" shooting. The nitrided barrel with a 76mm cartridge chamber has a fixed CYL (cylinder) fore-end, so we can shoot any type of shot and slug ammunition. The cocking safety is located on the front of the breech, within the direct reach of the index finger, so we do not change our grip on the weapon when unlocking it.
