The body of the sight is made of 6061-T6 aluminum by precision milling. The device has a durable and relatively lightweight design weighing 173 g with 1/3 Co-witness mount. The Holosun HE503R-GD Gold Dot features "stable zero holding", has no parallax error, and its optics provide unlimited eye relief, making it suitable for use on sporting rifles, AR carbines and hunting weapons. The collimator uses lenses covered with multi-layer anti-reflective coatings, which ensure high light transmission and a clear and sharp image without parallax error. The control system and diode are resistant to 1000 g overload, weapon recoil and weather conditions, so the device works efficiently and stably on hunting and sporting weapons.

Thanks to the Multi Reticle System, the user can change the aiming mark. You can choose between a classic 2 MOA dot and a 65 MOA circle. Such functionality makes the collimator great for hunting, as well as for sports and tactical shooting. In the GD (Gold Dot ) series rifle scopes, the target mark is displayed in gold color. This innovative solution has 3 features that significantly differentiate it from the classic red and green dot:
- gold color is neutral for daltonists
- the target mark in gold color is more visible on yellow and green backgrounds
- Gold Dot makes it easier to distinguish the target mark from the green or red dot of a laser target indicator

The power supply uses a popular CR2032 battery mounted under the outer cover. With an impressive operating time of up to 50,000 hours, the device owes its Shake Awake system , which automatically turns off the LED when there is no motion activity. Re-activating the aiming mark requires only moving the weapon. The user can independently define the time after which the sleep mode is activated. The aiming mark adjustment reels have a click of 0.5 MOA with an offset range of 50 MOA vertically and horizontally.
On the Holosun HS503GU, the battery is mounted on the side of the sight, under the nut on the right side of the barrel. Such functionality allows changing the battery without removing the collimator from the weapon. The set includes two Picatinny/Weaver rail mounts: a high one (1/3 co-witness) intended mainly for carbines and a low one recommended for shotguns.
