TheKershaw Deschutes Skinner 1883 is a lightweight full tang knife with a D2 steel head that is perfect for trimming game, cutting food and light camp work.
The Kershaw Deschutes Skinner 1883 has a full-tang (full shank) construction, which means that the blade and shank are made from a single piece of metal. Knives of such construction are resistant to breakage and damage, and are not afraid of hard work, so they are popular with hunters, survivalists, bushcraft enthusiasts and soldiers.
The knife is cut from hard D2 tool steel, which cuts aggressively, has high abrasion and wear resistance and good retention (long sharpness hold). Highly hardened D2 steel, despite being a carbon steel, also has high corrosion resistance, thanks to its increased chromium content and vanadium doping. Choosing a knife made of D2 tool steel, you can be sure that the blade will maintain sharpness and aggressiveness of cutting even during the toughest hunting work. When choosing a knife made of such steel, it is worth getting a diamond sharpener, as sharpening with a standard ceramic whetstone can be very labor-intensive and inefficient.

The head with a typically working drop-point profile has an optimal length of 99 mm and a thickness of 3.2 mm, so the knife will be useful for both meal preparation and light camp work. Transverse frets have been made on a section of the back, providing a solid point of support for the thumb. The blade has a flat grind, which provides an excellent compromise between durability and smoothness of cutting. The blade has a very practical so-called stonewashed finish, which is done by bathing the blade in gravel or small abrasive stones. The resulting irregular texture masks scratches and abrasions from use very well.
The rubberized polypropylene facings are fixed to the shaft with 2 steel screws. The profiled shape of the handle, the thumb cutout and the checkered texturing ensure a stable and comfortable grip on the knife. In the back of the handle there is a hole, which we can use as a lanyard or paracord tail clip. The set comes with a sturdy injection-molded polymer sheath. The sheath can be worn at the waist, attached to the equipment, and after the use of additional straps (not included) can be comfortably stabilized on the thigh. A nylon strap fastened with a metal fastener protects the tool from slipping out or being lost.
