Opinel Outdoor Folding Knife, or proven Swedish steel
The Opinel No. 8 head was forged from Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel. The melting technology used means that the steel contains very little impurities, and its fine-grained structure significantly increases the strength of the blade. Thanks to the admixture of chromium, the Swedish steel is resistant to corrosion and does not require special maintenance.
Opinel Outdoor folding knife - head
The knife has a Clip Point type blade. The cutting edge is partially serrated, making it easier to cut high-density materials, such as ropes or belts. The head is satin-finished, which gives the knife a classic elegance.
Opinel Outdoor Folding Knife - viroblock locking mechanism
Opening the knife is made possible by a convenient hole cut in the back of the blade. It can also serve as a shackle key.
Once opened, the blade is locked with the viroblock, patented in 1955. This is a steel ring on the handle located at the level of the axis of rotation of the blade. When the knife is opened, it should be rotated a few degrees, so that it covers the blade slot located in the handle. This will "support" the blade, preventing it from folding. In an analogous way, you can avoid accidentally opening the knife already folded.
Opinel Outdoor folding knife and synthetic handle
The Opinel Outdoor handle is made of black-orange dyed polymer. The material is lightweight and not susceptible to mechanical damage. An integral part of the handle is a whistle, whose swish reaches 110 dB. Among other things, it allows you to signal your presence or initiate an alarm. Through the hole located at the end of the handle is threaded a nylon rope, allowing to attach the knife, making it easier to retrieve or find it in a backpack.
