The Opinel DIY, or Do It Yourself, is a multi-functional folding knife designed for the do-it-yourselfer or the adventurer who wants to have a set of basic tools on hand. Made of high-quality materials, practical and handy, it will help solve both more and less mundane problems.
Opinel DIY folding knife - head
The blade is made of Sandvik 12C27 steel. This Swedish stainless steel is characterized by low impurities, high corrosion and chipping resistance and a fine carbide structure, which ensures very aggressive and efficient cutting and cutting edge strength.
Notches on the cutting edge make the cutter capable of cutting wire (cable diameter max. 5 mm) and stripping insulation (maximum cable diameter 1.8 mm).
Virobloc locking mechanism
The knife uses the Virobloc locking ring designed by Marcel Opinel in 1955. Virobloc has a steel construction and consists of two parts: a fixed (inner) one and a movable one, responsible for locking the blade in the open and folded positions. The mechanism is easy to use, durable and reliable, which is why Opinel has been using it almost unchanged for more than 65 years.
The knife opens with the help of a nail cutout grooved into the blade.
Opinel DIY folding knife - handle and bits
The handle is made of durable plastic. Thanks to the bit hole located at its end, the knife can very quickly become a screwdriver. On both sides of the handle, in specially made grooves, two bits are placed - a 4 mm flat screwdriver and a Philips screwdriver from 3.5 mm to 5.0 mm.
