The carbine is equipped with an 18-inch barrel with a long gas system. This allows the carbine to provide a higher bullet velocity, and the slower slide action results in less recoil. The design also affects the weapon's cleanliness, as less dirt enters the gas mechanism and chamber.
The barrel, forged from Chromo 4140 steel, has a five-barrel thread with a 1:8-inch pitch, allowing it to shoot bullets in the 50-77 grain range. The 5.56mm caliber chamber allows the use of .223 Remington ammunition, and the thicker profile of the barrel at its start improves accuracy. The barrel ends in a 1/2 x 28 thread, on which an exhaust device is mounted to reduce recoil.
