The Steyr SD-988520 UMS (Universal Military Silencer) moderator is a sound suppressor adapted to the 5.56x45 mm (.223 Remington) caliber. It is created to reduce the sound wave generated by powder gases expanding during firing. The suppressor is characterized by high quality workmanship, in accordance with military standards. The unique design with additional ventilation channels counteracts the phenomenon of so-called counter-pressure, i.e. backflow of gunpowder gases back into the breech chamber. Another feature is the ease of installation on the A2 exhaust device thanks to a quick-release coupling. The suppressor is compatible with Steyr AUG carbines .

Effective sound attenuation
The suppressor mutes sounds to a level of 14 dB right at the exit hole. The intensity of the sound heard by the shooter is also 14 dB. The device increases the overall length of the weapon by 180 mm.
