The Ruger American Duty is a self-revolving pistol adapted to the 9 × 19 mm caliber. It is a shrink-free successor to the SR-9 model, which uses a polymer frame. The weapon features unique futuristic shapes, pronounced sighting instruments, a short-travel trigger and a replaceable grip cap. The sharp edges have been undercut so as not to snag on fittings, holster or clothing. In front of the trigger holster is located a 22mm mounting rail for a laser pointer or flashlight. The weapon will work well as a service pistol, sports pistol or collector's pistol.

Action mechanism
American Duty pistol is a classic weapon for 9 × 19 mm centerfire ammunition. Due to its high energy, a massive breech and an operating principle based on a short barrel recoil with its locking by vertical recoil (a typical Browning system) were used here. This solution allows the gas pressure to drop to a safe level after the bullet leaves the barrel. A strong return spring further reduces the sensation of recoil acting on the shooter.
Safeties and manipulators
The gun has two types of essential safety features. The primary one is an automatic trigger fuse, incorporated into the tongue. It prevents accidental firing in case the gun is dropped and inertia triggers. The second is an internal firing pin lock. The magazine release button is integrated into the base of the bail and is double-sided. Just above it is located a duplicated lever that drops the lock from its rear position after the last shot.
Targeting instruments
The Ruger American Duty has fixed Low Novak Mount 3-point mechanical sighting instruments (musket and scimitar). They have bright dots for easy alignment.
The barrel of the Ruger American pistol
A 4.5" (11.43 cm) long forged barrel made of polished stainless steel is used here. It has a right-hand thread with a 1:10" pitch and 6 furrows to stabilize the bullet.
Magazine and grip
The gun has a metal magazine for 17 rounds + 1 in the chamber. The grip has an ergonomic angle and is covered with an anti-slip texture. You get two grip caps and two spare nickel-plated, Teflon-coated magazines in the kit.
