Alpheus Hyatt Verrill (1871 - 1954) was a famous American zoologist, explorer and inventor. He was passionate about illustrating books, of which he was also an author. He wrote works on natural history, as well as science-fiction literature. His father, Addison Emery Verrill, was the first ever professor of zoology at Yale University.
