Operating principle of the Savage rifle
AXIS II is a classic repeating rifle, based on a slide-turn (4-barrel) lock. Locking is carried out through symmetrically located bolts, corresponding to the locking resistance in the barrel's cartridge chamber. Such a system is simple and reliable, plus easy to clean and maintain. It also ensures high shooting precision and resistance to high pressures of the ammunition used.
The barrel used in the Axis II Precision rifle
The rifle uses a heavy and self-supporting 559 mm long barrel made of carbon steel. The internal thread (1:9.25) in the barrel was made using the traditionalbutton rifled technique, which guarantees high accuracy and repeatable hits . The rifle's barrel is designed to accommodate 5/8-24 threaded discharge devices. The Savage Axis II Precision has a single-stage Accu Trigger mechanism with a weight adjustment of 2.5-6 lb.
Targeting Instruments
The rifle decided not to use mechanical sighting instruments, thus giving the shooter the choice of what form of sight he wants to use. In their place, the rifle was equipped with the possibility of installing any form of optics, thanks to the 22 mm mounting rail on the breech chamber.
Safeties and manipulators
The rifle has two types of safety features. The primary one is an adjustable safety located on the left side of the breech chamber. It can be easily operated by the shooter with his thumb. The second safety is a locking device that prevents firing when the breech is not cocked. The reloading lever has an enlarged head so as to improve the process of firing rapid shots.
Box magazine for 10 cartridges
The weapon is powered by a replaceable box magazine with a capacity of 10 cartridges of 6.5 Creedmoor caliber made of plastic. It complies with the AICS (Accuracy International Chassis System) standard, which is sure to please sport shooters.
