The operation of the SX4 Self-Replicating Shotgun is based on the simple solution of discharging part of the powder gases onto a gas piston located under the barrel. It features an Active-Valve system that dynamically adjusts the gas pressure to the ammunition currently in use, ensuring reliable operation. Locking is carried out via a rotating lock.

The weapon has a sub-luxury tubular-type magazine. It is loaded through a window located at the bottom of the breech chamber. It has a capacity of 5 cartridges of 12/89 caliber plus 1 loaded directly into the cartridge chamber.
