The knife has a small 35mm long blade, made of hard XC90 high-carbon steel. Thanks to its high carbon content (up to 0.90%), the XC90 steel blade is resistant to mechanical damage, stays sharp for a long time and cuts much more aggressively than stainless steel. However, it should be remembered that carbon steel is prone to corrosion, so it requires regular and proper maintenance. Each time after use, the blade should be thoroughly cleaned, dried and protected with linseed/ camellia oil or synthetic knife grease. As with other Opinel models, a nail cutout is used to unfold the blade.
Opinel - folding knives for hunters and hikers
This model uses a classic drop-point profile blade. A flat grind is used on the blade, which guarantees good cutting performance and provides high strength of the cutting edge.
Wooden handle French beech wood was used for the handle, with a varnish coating to protect it from dirt and moisture. The handle has a traditional oval profile that widens at the end, making the knife comfortable and secure in the hand. Unlike larger models, the Opinel 2 knife does not have a Virobloc lock.
