Silky Pocketboy Curve 170-8 Folding Hand Saw

Product description

TheSilky Pocketboy Curve 170-8 is an upgraded version of the popular hiking/survival saw, equipped with a curved blade that increases efficiency and makes it easier to cut branches above our shoulders. Version with 170 mm blade for fresh wood.

Professional hand saws of the Japanese brand Silky were created on the basis of a centuries-old tradition of manufacturing reliable cutting tools and modern technologies. This combination makes Silky tools achieve high durability and sharpness, which results in high cutting efficiency.

Silky Pocketboy is a series of compact travel saws with a lightweight and handy design, which has been a huge success in our country due to its performance and versatility of use. Pocketboy saw is especially appreciated by survivalists, bushcraft enthusiasts, hunters and canoeists.

The Pocketboy Curve 170-8 saw blade is precision laser-cut from high-carbon steel with high flexibility and high resistance to dulling. Compared to straight saw blades, the new blade 's gentle curved profile speeds up cutting and increases productivity by up to 15-20%. The slightly oval shape prevents the saw from falling out of the cut and makes it easier to cut branches above our shoulders.

The surface of the blade is chrome-plated, which protects it from corrosion, harmful effects of tree sap and weathering. Silky saws are distinguished by an advanced tooth design and a "back-to-back" sawing technique for maximum comfort and minimal energy input.

Sharp teeth for increased efficiency are ground in as many as four planes. Also important is the fact that only the edges of the teeth are subjected to induction hardening, so the rest of the blade is soft and flexible, thus protecting the saw from breaking during operation or improper use. The cutting part has an hourglass shape, as a result, the blade does not lock during cutting, as is the case with most saws on the market.

This distinctive tooth profile also maximizes the resistance during chopping, and the surface of the wood after cutting is extremely smooth.

The Pocketboy Curve 170-8 handsaw is equipped with a 180 mm long blade of medium type, i.e. 8 teeth per 30 mm blade length. Such a blade will work best for sawing a fresh bough of wood up to 85 mm thick.

The saw is folded in such a way that the aggressive teeth are safely hidden inside the handle. A locking mechanism allows the blade to be locked in two different positions, depending on the situation and working conditions. The Pocketboy model uses a polypropylene handle, which guarantees a high grip regardless of weather conditions. It comes with a practical lockable case, made of transparent plastic, which protects the tool when transported in a backpack or toolbox.

TheSilky Pocketboy Curve 170-8 is a pocket-sized saw that is sure to appeal to survivalists, bushcraft enthusiasts, hunters and those looking for a powerful tool for the garden or home workshop.

Silky Pocketboy Curve saws have interchangeable blades, available separately.

Technologies

Chrome-plated finish

Chrome plating on the blade makes the blade surface extremely hard and durable, while reducing friction and increasing blade life. In addition, chrome plating protects the blade from rust and resin. Before applying the chrome plating, Silky polishes the blade to a silk-smooth finish. This makes the blade encounter even less resistance in the wood when sawing.

Electro-pulse hardening

The tips of the teeth are heated to a very high temperature for a fraction of a second. Since only the tip (or otherwise the cutting part) of the tooth is heated, the rest of the tooth retains its cutting quality, but also its flexibility. Induction-hardened teeth have three times the life of untreated teeth. They cannot be sharpened and can be recognized by the black tips of the teeth.

Mirai-Me teeth

The razor-sharp teeth are precision ground into the blade, each with 3 cutting edges and resulting in an extremely smooth surface. For optimum sawdust evacuation, every back tooth (depending on the saw model) is ground outward. This unrivaled, patented MIRAI-ME technology allows the saw to be used for 3 types of cutting: cross-cutting (perpendicular to the grain), rip-cutting (parallel to the grain direction) and mitering. During pruning work, a smooth saw cut will allow the tree wound to overgrow easily. In carpentry, a smooth saw cut provides an excellent finish, making sanding unnecessary.

Non-spaced teeth

The teeth are precision ground into the blade, each with 4 cutting surfaces. The teeth are "unspaced" so that the cutting surface cuts straight into the wood, destroying about 50% fewer wood cells. The blades are ground biconcave: the lower part of the blade (near the teeth) is thickest, the upper part is slightly thinner, and the blade is thinnest in the middle. This design has several advantages: Less power needed for sawing, discharges sawdust effortlessly (it won't get stuck in the wood), very clean saw cut - no breaking or tearing of the wood creates a very accurate, smooth saw cut.

GOM rubber grip

GOM's rubber grip absorbs vibrations while sawing and provides an excellent grip, even in wet conditions or when wearing gloves. What's more, this handle always keeps you pleasantly warm, even in extremely cold temperatures.

Silky technology

The blades are made of Japanese Authentic Premium steel and laser-cut. The blades are of unparalleled quality: they are very hard and durable, but at the same time remain flexible thanks to a soft metal core. Hard and wear-resistant - The chemical composition of the metal combined with a unique heating and cooling process determines the high hardness of the metal. The high carbon content leads to high wear resistance, so the sharpness remains for a very long time. Soft and flexible - By forging the saws in such a way, the core of the saw tooth consists of soft metal, so that the saw remains flexible and easily grips the wood.
