TheOpinel 8 for mushrooms in a blister is a folding knife for mushroom hunters equipped with a curved stainless steel blade, Virobloc lock, and a cleaning brush.
Stainless steel blade
The knife has an 80mm long stainless steel blade, which requires no special maintenance, stays sharp for a long time and sharpens easily. The blade is unfolded with two hands using a nail cutout.
Curved blade profile
As with most mushroom knives, this model also uses a curved claw-like blade, which allows you to precisely cut out the mushroom without damaging the mulch. The back of the blade is serrated, so that the finger has a stable point of support when cutting out. According to proponents of mushroom clipping, cutting off the mushroom leaves the lower part of its stem, which rots in the mulch, fertilizing it and helping to form mycelium.
Wooden handle
French beech wood is used for the handle, with a clear lacquer coating to protect it from dirt and moisture. The handle has a traditional oval profile that widens at the end, making the knife comfortable and secure in the hand. At the back of the handle is a boar bristle brush useful for cleaning mushrooms.
Virobloc locking mechanism
The knife uses the Virobloc locking ring designed by Marcel Opinel in 1955. Virobloc has a steel construction and consists of two parts: a fixed (inner) one and a movable one, responsible for locking the blade in the open and folded positions. The mechanism is easy to use, durable and reliable, which is why Opinel has been using it almost unchanged for more than 65 years.
