TheOpinel Colorama 06 inox purple with th ong is a folding outdoor knife featuring a Sandvik 12C27M stainless steel blade, Virobloc locking mechanism, and a wooden handle with a thong for attachment.
The knife has a 70mm long blade, made of modified Sandvik 12C27M stainless steel hardened to57-58 HRC. Thanks to the admixture of chromium, the Swedish steel is resistant to corrosion and requires no special maintenance. 12C27M is a pure fine-grained alloy with high carbon content (min. 0.40%), which is distinguished by good wear resistance, and satisfactory retention. Thanks to such parameters, the blade stays sharp for a long time, is resistant to corrosion and wear, and is easy to sharpen. The blade is unfolded with two hands using a nail cutout.
Exotic blade profile
This model uses a jatagan profile blade. The designer was inspired by a traditional Turkish saber with a characteristically curled tip. The blade has a perfectly derived convex grind, which guarantees excellent cutting performance and ensures high strength of the cutting edge. The side edges of the convex grind are convex and flow smoothly from the cutting edge to the back of the blade, allowing us to cut faster and more efficiently compared to, for example, concave grind.
Wooden handle
French hornbeam wood was used for the handle, with a varnish coating to protect it from dirt and moisture. The handle has a traditional oval profile that widens at the end, making the knife comfortable and secure in the hand. A hole in the handle was used to weave in a thong, which makes it easy to remove the knife from your pocket and allows it to be trolled to your gear.
Virobloc lock
The knife uses the Virobloc locking ring designed by Marcel Opinel in 1955. Virobloc has a steel construction and consists of two parts: a fixed (inner) one and a movable one, responsible for locking the blade in the open and folded positions. The mechanism is easy to use, durable and reliable, which is why Opinel has been using it almost unchanged for more than 65 years.
